MEDICAL CENTRE THE SCHOOTEN

COMMISSION

SEED architects has designed a new health center for Woningstichting(housing association) Den Helder in the existing nursing home: “The Gulf Stream”. Various primary care providers have been brought together in this new health center which can thereby provide better care for the residents of De Schooten, the surrounding residential area located in the Southern part of Den Helder. The health center includes a general practice, a pharmacy, a dental practice, a physiotherapy practice, a home care office, a blood collection station, a psychological practice, speech therapy practice and a skin therapy practice.

CONCEPT

The atrium of the existing Gulf Stream building forms the communal heart of the health center that connects the care providers around it.

DESIGN

After entering the building via the main entrance one comes into the central communal waiting area in the existing atrium. The entrances of the individual caregivers are positioned around this waiting area. Large wall posters of mooring posts on the beach evoke the atmosphere of the coast around Den Helder. Rough wooden waiting furniture, an entrance hall is reminiscent of a jetty and wooden accents reinforce this image. The interior has been designed by interior designer Frans Tauber.
